Lam Wufui
Male, born in 1945, is a native of Jieyang, Guangdong province. He graduated from the Universal Fine Arts Academy, where he furthered his studies in animal anatomy, drawing, graphic and commercial design. He was a graphic designer, an illustrator, and became a full-time artist and an instructor on 1978. He studied the Lingnan School of contemporary flora and fauna painting under Zhao Shao¡¯ang and studied landscape painting under Leung Baiyu. His works are a refreshing fusion of western and eastern artistic techniques. The variety of subjects in his paintings are each marked by special traits. His fish is natural and realistic; his flowers are marked by fresh ink tones and rich colors, making them splendid and fascinating; his animals are vividly portrayed, accurate in form and lifelike in spirit; his birds are refined and delicate, endowed with various kinds of postures. Having apprehended the principle of creation and growth, he succeeds in capturing the form of various kinds of objects; His best works¡¯ theme is cranes and egrets. The beautiful ways of the cranes dancing and flying in his painting are elegant, filled with sublimity and freedom.
He has held solo exhibitions in Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia, Japan, Korea, England, Germany, Australia, and the United States. His paintings have been accepted in over fifty joint watercolor exhibitions throughout the United States. Major public and private collectors have collected some of his paintings.
Lam has won awards at several shows, including the National Capital Area Chapter Award, the Sumi-e Shows in 1991 and 1992, the Fidelity & Deposit Company of Maryland Award at the Baltimore Watercolor Society Mid-Atlantic Regional Show in 1992, the Merit Award at the New Jersey Center for Visual Arts Members¡¯ Show in 1992 and 1994, the Watson & Guptil Award at the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society XV Juried Exhibition, the Best of Show Award at the Sumi-e 32nd Anniversary Exhibition, and the Schmincke/Comos Brush Award at the Baltimore Watercolor Society 1996 Mid-Atlantic Regional Exhibition. |
