Song Di
male, born in 1945, is a native of Mouping, Shandong province. He has served as a lecturer, assistant professor and professor at the Central Institute of Arts and Crafts.
He studied painting under masters Li Kuchan and Xu Linlu from his youth. Later he was enrolled in the Beijing Academy of Arts and Central Institute of Arts and Crafts. After graduation from the latter, he served as a lecturer, assistant professor and professor there.
Landscape is Song¡¯s main theme of creation but he also draws nudes, flower-and-bird and still life. He has integrated the strengths of both Chinese and Western Schools as expressed in direct application of composite colours in his paintings, giving the objects a great diversity in tones. His works have succeeded in bringing about a reform of traditional genre of Chinese landscapes as they on the one hand absorb the Western approaches, and on the other retain the spirit of the Chinese heritage. They are noted for their expansiveness and subtlety as well as their power of moving the mind and senses of the viewers. There are breakthroughs in themes, composition, colouring, delineation of spatial and temporal changes and vision in them, which represent a new development in Chinese painting.
Since last decade, Song has held solo exhibitions in Germany, Japan, Switzerland, Taiwan, Singapore, Hong Kong and different places in China, which have reached a large number of audience and caught much attention in the art circle for his original style and artistic charisma. Numbers of his painting collection albums have been published.
