Feng Dazhong
male, born in 1949, known as the Host of the Crouching Tiger Cottage, is a native of Gaixian, Liaoning province. He is now a member of Chinese Artists Association, vice-chairman of the Chinese Gongbi Painting Association, vice-chairman of the Liaoning Branch of the Benxi Municipal Cultural Federation and is rated as a national first-class artist.
When he was 15, Feng learned from Li Xiaoru on painting tigers. He is basically a self-taught artist of tiger and landscape painting. Feng¡¯s works feature his personality which is never bounded by stereotypes and setting rules. The tiger under his brush has a powerful appearance and mood. It displays full integration of vigor and gentleness, with assimilation of grandeur and details. His masterful art of painting tiger has not only impressed a large audience but also won him the name of ¡°The No. One Tiger of the World¡±. Seen as a breakthrough on this genre of painting since the Ming and Qing dynasties, his delineation of the wild nature is bold and always filled with his personal feeling and running spirit.
Feng¡¯s works have been exhibited in many different places in China and have won many prizes. Among these, his ¡°Early Snow¡± was awarded the Second prize in the National Show of Works by Young Artists; ¡°Early Spring¡± won a Gold medal in the 1st National Chinese Gongbi Painting Exhibition in 1988; ¡°Brilliant Sunshine¡± won the Distinctive prize in the 8th National Art Exhibition in 1994. In addition, eighteen of his works are in the collection of the Chinese Art Gallery. His paintings have also been shown in his solo exhibitions and many other group shows staged in Japan, Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong. His published works include ¡°The Paintings of Feng Dazhong¡± and ¡°Selected Works of Feng Dazhong¡±.
