Contemporary Chinese Flower-and-bird Paintings Exhibition
17.10.2009 – 31.10.2009 This October, Chinese poets and painters have always valued the nature as their muse. Early as in the Song dynasty, Chinese flower-and-bird fine brushstroke painting has already reached its climax. Later in the late-Ching period, flower-and-bird free brushstroke painting has reached its climax as well, as a result many flower-and-bird masters emerged from that time, e.g. Ren Bonian, Xu Gu, Wu Changshuo, Qi Baishi, Gao Jianfu, Pan Tianshou and Zhao Shaoang. Stepping into the 21st century, along with extended artistic vision and improved creative condition, contemporary Chinese artists have been enabled to make further use of their talents, Chinese flower-and-bird painting has then been developing healthily and rapidly that it has entered a blooming stage. Flower-and-bird painters are expressive through their flowers and birds. Their artworks are embodiments of spirit, meaning and symbolism. Their artworks and their morals are also mostly inseparable, it is said that “the mountain will lose its color if the painter’s feeling is inert, the water will not be clear if the painter’s heart is unsettled.” Flower-and-bird painting does not only represent the beauty of nature, but also expresses humanity, and this is also the reason why it is an ageless genre.
