Ma Yu-min, Shao Cong, born in a musical family in Zheng zhou in 1955.Her father is a calligrapher. She has received the home writing training from an early age. She starts practicing calligraphy in standard script, and specializes in Er wang and Zhao Meng-fu, Wen Zheng-ming''s semi-cursive script. She has been copied many famous works of calligraphy in Ancient China for millions of times, such as Lan Ting Xu（Wang Xi-zhi, the Han Dynasty）,Dan Ba Bei,Miao Yan Si Ji,Fu Shen Guan Ji,Luo Shen Fu(Zhao Meng -fu, the Han Dynasty),Chi Bi Fu,Teng Wang Ge Xu(Wen Zheng-ming, the Ming Dynasty), Luo Hua shi(Tang Bo-hu, the Ming Dynasty) etc. She interconnects and takes a lot of nutrition from the traditional culture and forms the style of her own.
In the process of learning calligraphy, Ma Yu-min is not lonely accompanied by music. She came from a musical family: her grandfather studied in France and love music, and one of her uncles was the school’s orchestra conductor at the Huangpu Military Academy. The other uncle and her father ever worked in the art troupe the Fourth Field Army. Ma Yu-min learns from the Zhao Meng-fu''s features mainly and refers to Weng Zheng-ming,Tang Bo-hu''s calligraphy works. Her calligraphy lines are rounded and strokes are hided in it. The calligraphy structure is well-balanced as well as full of changes. She blends something strong from Wen Zheng-ming into the paper that makes the works more powerful on the basis of moderate. She uses different shades of ink, sound dignified font structure, clever and implicit technique of writing that makes the whole atmosphere of the works legislation rather than separated, accessible without retention. Ma Yu-min attaches great importance to the selection of content of the works. She pursuit of a high degree of unity of content and form in the works.
