Wan Fung Art Gallery proudly presents to you the “Exploration and Innovation - New Works of Wu Qiming” starting from 10 -23 December. The opening reception will be held at 3pm, 10 December. Wu is a talented artist which was discovered by Wan Fung Art Gallery. He has been humbly dedicating for fifty years and has become well known among the Chinese artists and art lovers in recent year. In his long term artistic creation, Wu invents a new kind of brushwork and establishes his distinctive personal style. Furthermore, he opens up a new category in Chinese art history. This exhibition will exhibit the most outstanding works of Wu. We welcome all art lovers to join the opening reception.
While most artists specialize in one particular topic, Wu, with his unique style, paints a variety of topics, such as traditional farmhouse and garden, flowers-and-birds, wooden furniture, temple and modern buildings, wood-craving sculptures and dummy figures, indicating that Wu has a superb level of observation and modelling skill. He has a strong ability to extract the extraordinary beauty from common things. No doubt that Wu’s painting skill has reached a mature level. In his art world, there is no boarder and limitation. He keeps exploring new objects and topics to paint. This would not be an easy task without a high level of painting skill.
There are two main themes in Wu’s paintings. The first one is the farmhouse. Chickens and farm tool were depicted accurately with his unique technique. The feather of chicken and the wooden texture were painted in detail, which becomes a special characteristic of Wu’s work. The other theme is the common objects which relate to daily life, such as books, chess, still lifes, houses and temple. Wu’s works were painted with natural colors and refined brushstrokes to compose a harmonic scene of quiet and settling nature. The real world and the inner world of Wu combined seamlessly. The still scenes lead the audience to their peace of mind.

Wu Qiming
Male, born in 1957, is a native of Anhui Province. Now he is a member of Shanxi Artists Association and the Chinese Painter-Calligrapher Fraternity. He is one of the Chinese professional painters.
Wu’s work is highly innovative and individualistic. His every use of stroke is effective and accurate, indicating his full mastery of the nature of Chinese brush and ink ––once a mark is made, no correction can be made. Moreover, he uses different tones of ink and shapes of stroke-marks to express the forms, texture, light and shadow, and even the motion of the objects. All these require high expertise.
His works were selected many times by provincial exhibitions in Shanxi, national exhibitions such as in Beijing, as well as exhibitions overseas including Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. His masterpieces include “Fragrance of Autumn”, “The Elegant Sitting Room”, “Leisure”, “Return from Countryside”, “Teahouse”, “Bliss of Farmhouse”, “Springtime Melody of the Pond”, “Homeland”, "Clear Lamp & Old Books", "Food & Seasoning", etc. They are widely published in “Chinese Digest", "Art & Collection", "Views on Fine Art ", "Book and Picture" and so on.
Since December 2011 Wan Fung Art Gallery has organized Wu’s tour exhibition, showing in Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai and Guangdong. The Gallery has also published the "Exploration and Innovation - Wu Qi Ming Painting Album" in the same year.

Preface
Seven, eight years ago, one of my friends showed me some paintings of a Shanxi artist. The painting caught my eye. Though his works were not emerged, the technique demonstrated in the works is innovative, which was never used in Chinese painting. This painting style is creative and remarkable. The founder of the style is Mr. Wu Qiming.
Wu draws on the realistic skill. His works emphasize on the effective, irrevocable brushwork. Not only the line drawing, but also the stylized expression of shade and texture of the brush and the ink. The trace of the brushwork  and the moistness of ink concretely depict the object and give the painting the sense of rhythm and beauty. Because of the irreversibility of the brushwork, indeed, highly advance drawing skills is required in order to produce steady yet flexible, strongly and personally characterized brushstrokes. If his unique style have been further developed, it would be definitely a significant contribution to Chinese Art. Nevertheless, the artistic exploration is never a easy way to go. The artist has to devote himself completely, with immeasurable patient and effort, in order to develop and emerge his talent and therefore his unique innovative style completely.
I am certain that Wu has been facing a great artistic challenge. If he succeeded, not only is his personal achievement, and also an important development in Chinese fine arts.
During these years, I was excited and moved again and again by Wu’s new creations. He kept exploring new objects and topics to paint. This would not be an easy task without a high level of painting skill. Furthermore, Wu paints with his heart. Audiences are easily touched by his passion and love of art and life reveals in his paintings.
Wu has suffered a lot of difficulties and hardship during his artistic career. He has fought against a lot of adversities and failures with his extraordinary passion and motivation in arts and literature. He didn’t stop in exploring more topics to express in his unique style. In long term artistic creation, Wu invents a new kind of brushwork and establishes his distinctive personal style. Furthermore, he opens up a new category in Chinese art history.
Now, Wu Qiming is at his peak stage of art creation. I anticipate that more great masterpieces would be created by this talented artist in the future. After three decades of hardship China is entering a new era. Nowadays, government and public show high concern in cultural development. I hope that Wu’s effort would be noticed and acknowledged. I sincerely wish Wu and his first solo touring exhibition “Exploration & Innovation - Fine Art Exhibition of Wu Qiming” will achieve great success.
