Liu Guangda - Freehand Brushwork of Tiger painting Exhibition
18.11.2010 – 27.11.2010
“Liu Guangda - Freehand Brushwork of Tiger painting Exhibition” will start from 18 to 27 November, 2010 in Wan Fung Art Gallery. The exhibition will showcase more than 30 pieces of tiger freehand masterpieces of Liu Guangda.
Unlike meticulous painting, freehand painting emphasizes on spirit and soul rather than strict composition of fine elaboration. The subject is usually painted freely and flexibly with just a few strokes to express the impression and feelings of the artists, such as Qi Baishi’s shrimp painting. Indeed a high level of drawing skill is required in drawing advanced freehand painting because every stroke is irreversible and even a tiny mistake could ruin the whole work. The picture is to be drawn in mind first and then on paper at one go.
People sometimes appraise the character of artists by their painting. Artists who specialize in freehand painting are often believed to be easygoing and cheerful people. The tiger freehand painter, Liu Guangda is exactly such a person. He loves to draw freely and believes that traditional techniques and rhythms of freehand brushwork are most suitable for presenting the noble spirit and shape of tigers.
Liu’s tiger painting is quite different from our general impression of fierce and aggressive tigers. Liu has devoted his lifetime in observing the behavior of tigers; hunting, fighting, playing, tending to tiger cub, etc. Therefore in his painting, he captures the daily life of tigers and features the lovely, funny and kind characters of tigers.
Liu is rated as first-class national artist. His works has won many awards and are well acclaimed. That further reinforces his status as the master of freehand Chinese painting. “Liu Guangda - Freehand Brushwork of Tiger painting Exhibition” is the first solo exhibition of Liu Guangda in Hong Kong. The opening ceremony starts at 5pm, 18 November 2010 in Wan Fung Art Gallery. We are more than honored to present to you the final grand show at the end of the year of tiger.
