The Good Old Days- The Selective Art Works of Kinsan Chung
05.05.2010 – 13.05.2010
(April 2010, Hong Kong) Wan Fung Art Gallery is pleased to present "The Good Old Days- The Selective Art Works of Kinsan Chung" from 5 to 13 May 2010. Over thirty recent pieces of Mr. Chung’s artworks will be exhibited.
The themes of the artworks include the features of Hong Kong in the pre-war period to the 60’s. The exhibits illustrate different memorable events and stories of Hong Kong. For example, during the pre-war period, residents were anxious storing their food and resources. In the artworks, if you look into the eyes of the people, you can tell how much they were concerned about the future of Hong Kong. In another piece of work, the markets in Yau Ma Tei were filled with shops and many businesses started to grow and become vibrant, telling us the fact that Hong Kong had overcame the dark moments. Moreover, in another picture, you can see a big brother carrying his younger brother on his shoulder and holding the hand of his sister and brother crossing the road. These are all the collective memories of many of us in Hong Kong. Since Mr. Chung is a truly local Hong Kong artist, his artworks describe the part of Hong Kong that millions of us have experienced.
Chung has always admired the ideal of “the unity of the world”. By “unity” he means that people with different social status, citizenships, cultural backgrounds, occupations and thoughts can come together, accepting and respecting their differences. For this reason, Chung took action to achieve this ideal, by joining the police force and to fight for justice. When Chung retired, he used his paintings to meet friends and promote his ideal “togetherness”. In his artworks, no matter that they are businessmen, farmers, fishermen, the elders, children, men or women, they all live together in harmony. This is to illustrate to us his ideal world at the highest.
Wan Fung Art Gallery has always wanted to give our full support to the local artists. We will be presenting the "The Good Old Days- The Selective Art Works of Kinsan Chung" from 5 May 2010. Chung himself will also be joining us in a cocktail party on 7 May 2010 and will share with us his thoughts and inspirations. You are welcome to come along and meet him in person. Partial proceeds of this exhibition will be donated to the China Star Light Charity Fund Association, the Dharmasthiti Buddhist Institute Limited, the World Eye Organization and the DCSI Medicine & Education Fund.
